Saturday was a big day for the little one. She was scheduled to meet all sorts of members of her family tree. In anticipation for the big event, I dressed her warmly and attractively. Not that it mattered, though. Before we arrived in St. Johns, Amelia had a major blow-out, soiling her entire outfit—even down to her socks. She spent the rest of the day in her too-small, too-cold pajamas.

She first met her great-grandma Drain and her great-grandpa Drain.

Later she met her great-grandpa Crockett.

And then she met her Uncle Jason, who wasn’t quite sure how to handle her.

He decided that maintaining an arm’s distance seemed best.

But she tried to win him over with her smiles.

Since that wasn’t enough, she also tried to win the crowd over with some of her newly-acquired tricks—rolling from tummy to back.

She succeeded in gaining the favor of her first cousin, once removed—Kyle—who thought she was pretty cute stuff.

Her great aunt, Catherine, and second cousins also thought she was worthy of a few snuggles.
And yes, it did require some research to untangle these family connections.

The day ended, hours later, after she met her aunts, Sarah and Lisa.
For Amelia, it was a long, exhausting day in grumpy pajamas that no longer fit. Good thing she is so cute, so it doesn’t matter—she always makes a good first impression!
